About this deal

Still, the 58X is more than a viable candidate for gaming and does really well all things considered. HIFIMAN Sundara/400 series. The thing is, some people noting the 660 have less extended treble than the others makes me wonder if it would be even more fatigue free than the 6XX, so I took the 58X, AutoEQ and oratory's measurements of both headphones and calibrated (as per the instructions given on AutoEQ) the 58X to sound as the 660. If they sound so close as some reviewers claim, I don't think equalization could fail to achieve the 660 sound. Amplification: Following build is power requirements and amplification. These are mostly easy to drive, but they aren’t the easiest headphones in the world to drive. For certain forms of media, they won’t get loud enough. Music will be perfectly fine on a phone, but YouTube and other media with inconsistent volume normalization won’t always be loud enough. You can run these off of most sources just fine, but certain game console controllers might not get loud enough with these. An amp gives these more then enough power though, even something without a ton of power like a fiio e10k. You could definitely damage your ears with almost any desktop amp on these. Once there, the sound was delightful with surprisingly good amount of spatial qualities (I give it B+). I listened for the rest of the evening after I tested and did not want to put it down.

The distinction from headphone to headphone is kind of subtle, but I’d probably take the 58X or K702 for film over the others. The neat thing about the 58X is that its 150 Ohm Impedance is actually half that of the others in the line.I started to use the HD58X with a Sound BlasterX G6, which is a very neutral and linear amp. The sound was great, I found it to be really enjoyable. I come from a Sennheiser Momentum (Over-Ear 2.0) which has a slightly warm but very faithful sound IMO.

I’ve had this discussion with quite a number of people and most seem to agree that even despite the 560S’ almost perfect sound signature, there’s something missing.

Went from HyperX Cloud 2 to a fidelio X2HR and honestly not a super big fan of the comfort for longer than 1 hour.

I don’t know what foreign realm of unrealism you’ve entered our atmosphere from, but the HD58X is far from having any soundstage. I’ll admit you are right about them having a smidgen more than the HD600, but they neither sound out-of-head, nor spacious. They sound congested, narrow, and bland. Imaging is also not a strongsuit. The entire Sennheiser lineup suffers that same truth with the exception being the HD800’s, so they’re certainly not holographic. All that being said, I still quite like the HD58x’s design – all because of the grill alone. While it’s nowhere near the original HD580’s level of refinement (look at those waves!), the grey-painted grill surely gives the HD58x a “new”, weirdly retro and distinct look, one that stands out from its more recent siblings. Yes, I like the way the HD600, 650/6xx and 660s show off their drivers housing, but this is way more refreshing. Fitment on the fixture was challenging even though the cups easily covered the artificial ear on my measurement fixture. This resulted in fairly large variations in bass response. I got the two channels to match which is a good sign but still, keep in mind the cautions above in bold. I have the 58X, together with 600 and 650, yeah I know some of you may think why? and while I do agree they all are really alike, there's also some slight differences that makes me value the 6XX as the undisputed winner of this mid fi family. Going to return them to get a hd58x since I like the design more and will probably prefer the larger cups.

The build quality of the headphones is excellent for its price, even though it is made fully out of plastic except for the headband size adjuster and the large grilles which are made of steel. To be honest, there is nothing much to say about its build quality. It feels rigid in the hand and it can flex to a degree which is great! One difference you’ll notice here vs. others in the line is the bass; there’s more of it for sure, but it’s still not over the top.Treble Response: Wrapping up the frequency response, we have treble. The treble response on these is the weakest performer out of all three aspects in this headphone in my opinion. It’s not bad at all, but considering how much of an all rounder the 58X is, I’d say the treble is the weakest, but this is a matter of opinion as it is still very good. In terms of the brightness of it, it’s on the darker side. It’s not the most energetic treble response due to the fairly large dip in the early to mid treble. This ends up making these very easy to listen to music on, which although is a good thing, also results in these sounding less fun and engaging to listen too. Another important aspect is that the treble response is never sibilant, and when I say never, I genuinely mean never. Unless something is recorded badly, it is never sibilant. Due to how the treble is darker then the midrange, this ends up making these sound very balanced. Sometimes, they can sound slightly boring at times due to the significant neutrality of the sound signature, but this is a matter of personal preference. The treble is also quite detailed even though it’s not particularly bright. It also sounds quite natural most of the time, but there’s this sparkle to it which some people describe as grain in these, but to me personally it doesn’t sound grainy at all, it sounds sparkly and extra detailed at this particular range where this sparkle occurs. It’s mostly noticeable with high hats, and that’s about it. Overall the response is great, I just wish it was slightly brighter and more energetic. The 58X is a fine entry into the series and a headphone that I enjoyed a lot more than I thought I would.
