About this deal

If Dennis the Menace set the bar for comical misbehaving, then Horrid Henry smashed it to smithereens and littered his neighbor's yard with it. From a parent's standpoint, there's not much that's appealing about Henry himself. He's whiny, selfish, disrespectful, and argumentative, and he puts others out for his own gain. In fact, the only quality of the show less likable than Henry himself is his parents' blissful oblivion to his antics. Horrid Henry's Perfect Day", "Horrid Henry's Dance Class" and "Horrid Henry's Holiday" were all episodes from the Horrid Henry TV series. [10] [11] [12] Horrid Henry is the worst -- he's always in trouble, and he seems even more badly behaved than he actually is in comparison with his brother, Perfect Peter. In the four short stories collected here, the mischievous Henry causes Peter all sorts of problems when he behaves properly for a change, upstages Peter at a dance recital, pretends to be a pirate, and goes on a camping trip" (NoveList: Ellen Foreman). Continue the adventures with Henry with our Horrid Henry: The complete story collection 30 books box set. Een andere keer mislukt zijn "slimme" plannetje volledig en heeft Hendrik dikke pech als hij datgene krijgt wat hij absoluut niet wilde hebben.

I'd also recommend Morris Gleitzman's Two Weeks with the Queen, about a young boy whose brother is seriously ill and writes to the Queen asking for her help. Poignant, funny, and profound.' The first Horrid Henry book was written and published in 1994 by Orion Books. Up until 2015, 24 official Horrid Henry titles were published in the series with a special one-off 25th Anniversary book, published in 2019. The series has sold more than 21 million copies worldwide. [3] Henry appears to have messy reddish-brown hair, pale skin, and rosy cheeks. He is of average height for his age. He usually appears to be wearing a horizontally yellow striped light blue T-shirt, blue sewn jeans, and the usual green and white shell-toe trainers with yellow laces. His pyjamas are blue, with vertical white stripes. The slippers he wears in his pyjamas have inside looks like a crocodile's face and lime green colour. His transformations are coincidentally similar to Katie Ka-Boom's transformations, since both of them are transformations of hideous monsters/animals that represent their anger. Horrid Henry notably enjoys watching television, and his favourite shows include Mutant Max, Rapper Zapper and Terminator Gladiator. Henry and Peter often argue over who watches the television because Peter prefers to watch programs that Henry finds too babyish and boring.According to Henry, they have told him millions of times that he can never have another birthday party, but then agree to give him one more chance each year. Horrid Henry is the first book of the Horrid Henry series. It was published in 1994 and written by Francesca Simon and illustrated by Tony Ross. The book is a collection of short stories about the same characters, along the lines of the Just William books. I remember liking this book as a kid, so I thought I’d read it again (this time in English) and ahh it was so nostalgic. This is an outrageously funny series featuring the most quirky, eccentric characters that are bound to delight children who love gloriously silly details and horrible baddies,' she said. 'Hilariously illustrated, they really are marvellous, madcap adventures.' Your suggestions Readitdaddy had a great suggestion: Dork Diaries.'C would definitely recommend Dork Diaries for kids who do love a great series that evolves over time but can also be read completely out of sequence,' he said.

The making of "Glop" from "Horrid Henry and Moody Margaret" was used as a challenge between Henry and Margaret in the episode "Horrid Henry and the Secret Club" except that Margaret didn't eat the "Glop". [13] Throughout the series, Henry appears to be a 'horrid' boy, indicated by the people around him, including his parents and teacher. He appears to be around 10 years old until " Horrid Henry's Birthday" when he turns 11. Henry appears to turn 12 in " Horrid Henry's Birthday Bonanza" onward. This was truly a harrowing tale of nigh-biblical proportions. Simon honestly grapples with the idea of redemption and to what extent a person is able to forgive. With echoes to genesis, her modern interpretation of the bible tale is far more fitting for a contemporary audience of today, not to mention the metaphor of the feminine God found in the Mother character of the two children. She was all loving, yet all powerful and fair.Horrid Henry makes jump to hit big screen". BBC News. London. 23 June 2010 . Retrieved 11 October 2010.

I didn’t know the book was set in Britain (idk how I didn’t know, the title screams it) and as a wannabe british myself, I very much enjoyed the “british atmosphere” in the book. I love british kids. Even if they are “horrid”. Henry's next door neighbour and arch-enemy. Margaret often annoys Henry, while Henry torments Margaret by performing horrid deeds. They might deal with things, but they are still enemies. Despite the conflicts between Henry and Margaret, they seem to temporarily strike up as alliances, like in " Horrid Henry's Horrid Revenge", and on many occasions, they have been married or engaged in Henry's dreams. Most importantly, though, the books are very funny - and rude, too. Kids just get it. So what to read after you've gone through the 24 books in the series? For young readers who whizzed through Horrid Henry and want more funny and rude stories Edit: Also, the adults’ behavior in the book is questionable at times🤔 but ig things were different in the 90’s There seems to be a popular fan theory that Henry has ADHD, dyslexia or is on the autism spectrum, although this is completely unconfirmed. Francesca Simon is an American author who lives in North London with her family. Having previously worked as a journalist for publications from The Sunday Times to Vogue, she began writing children’s books after reading them to her son Joshua. Now, she’s one of the UK’s most popular children’s authors and has written over fifty books for kids of every age. In 2019, she was the third most borrowed author from libraries and the fifth most borrowed overall. She’s been a judge for literary prizes, been involved in many literacy charities, and was awarded a Gold Blue Peter badge.
