About this deal

Regardless, nothing can prepare you for the poems you haven't read yet, and there are quite a few of them. And then again, you are brought to post-apartheid Cape Town where you can almost smell the rusty cage in which pigeons were housed. No Matter the Wreckage invites readers to revel in both new and beloved works, showcasing Kay's remarkable ability to celebrate the essence of family, love, travel, history, and even peculiar romances between inanimate objects ("Toothbrush to the Bicycle Tire") with eloquence and charm. Whether or not you're a big fan of poetry, I absolutely recommend picking this book up, because I can absolutely guarantee that you will fall in love with it. So many irrelevant personal stories were shared by the author in this book that made it impossible for me to relate while reading.

You may have never heard of Sarah Kay or maybe you have watched every performance in every nook and cranny of the internet.I'm not sure if I'll pick up more from this author if this is her usual style, and don't reccommend this if you want to read something more lyrical, as I did. In Something We Don’t Talk About, Part I, Sarah manages to show honesty in domestic life and that every family has issues in their own way. I have shared the poem with all my friends and so far bought 5 copies of her beautifully illustrated hardback book of the same poem to give a copy to all my friends after they heard her words on the TED video. Sarah Kay also had the guts to take its stage and hold her own against performers at least a decade her senior. If you are planning to read more poetry this reading year, I can tell you one thing for sure, Sarah Kay will not disappoint.

Many of her poems centre around her experiences living in America and there are references to particular subway stations/streets etc but its so well written you could imagine being there. I highly think the connection between us is palpable, her words connect to me with too much precision. No Matter the Wreckage' is the kind of book that keeps getting better and better as you read through. No Matter the Wreckage presents readers with new and beloved work that showcases Kay's knack for celebrating family, love, travel, history, and unlikely love affairs between inanimate objects ("Toothbrush to the Bicycle Tire"), among other curious topics.

Her writing style was simply not my cup of tea, I liked a poem or two, but it didn't has a wow factor or anything and I loathed reading it out loud or even silently *Shocked* because I usually enjoy reading poetry books out loud.

When the weight gives, and all that extra rope comes hurtling towards you, how even though you've won, you still end up with muddy knees and burns on your hands? Sarah Kay is definitely an astonishing poet and because she is under-appreciated in the book world, I feel that more should look into giving this book a read.It doesn't have to rhyme necessarily, but it has to have a certain flow, a special way with the words - metaphoric or clever or vivid, but it has to surprise you or pierce your heart. I think the best word to describe this collection is EARNEST; Sarah has truly poured her heart and soul into these poems. I like how not all of her pieces stem from anger, or lust, or anguish; the emotional variety of this collection strengthens it. After spending days watching as many YouTube videos as I could find, getting my hands on this written collection of poems was the next step in the evolution of my obsession.

I felt very detached from the author and the themes while reading the poems, and I felt that the free-form didn't help convey the message she was trying to get accross. I leave this book with a feeling of how very under rated she is (despite all the love and fame she garners). In 2011, Kay published "B", a short hardcover book containing the titular poem, which was originally written in 2007.Some of the poems are not new to those who have followed her videos on YouTube and seen her TEDtalks, so they will be accustomed to infamous pieces such as B, Shosholoza, Montauk and Private Parts.
