About this deal

Giganotosaurus (the dinosaur) lived about ninety million years ago, and it was almost the largest carnivorous dinosaur. The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal.

Giganotosaurus was also slightly smaller than Spinosaurus, currently the record holder for the longest carnivorous dinosaur , although it may have been more solidly built than the larger animal. This activity helps your Year 1 class understand and process the information behind the words they are reading. Dinosaur enthusiasts compare two prehistoric giants and explore the similarities and differences between them. I actually felt kind of bad for young Bonehead because unlike the wolf story where the child is being willfully untruthful, Bonehead simply mistakes other large animals for the Gigantosaurus. In the end, they still don't trust him (he does survive) and I thought that was a shame for the poor little dinosaur who was just trying to be a good lookout. Beginning readers will be captivated by the detailed, original illustrations of the mighty, terrifying Giganotosaurus. By encouraging readers to notice similarities and differences, the set engages them with age-appropriate critical thinking, making this set a natural choice for Common Core use. I like the back of the book that tells about the different dinosaurs and also about the true Giganotosaurus (yes that's how you spell it).

My son loves the story and this book has been a favourite at bedtime for a few nights on the run now. Not only does the text feature dinos, but it has a dino-glossary in the back of all the real types of dinos met in the book. Gigantosaurus is a Mesozoic spin on a Peter and the Wolf like tale full of great rhythm, rhyme, and patterning.

I liked the back matter providing information about various dinosaurs and the endpapers with a dinosaur tail and bones. Readers will learn about the exciting adventures of a young Gigantosaurus as he grows from a youth into an adult. Buffy Silverman is the author of more than 90 nonfiction books for children, featuring topics from alligators to video games. In a vertical gatefold surprise, it looks like Bonehead has got crunched - but in a hilarious reveal we discover this annoying little dinosaur is safe after all. rex relied on strength and a powerful bite in a strike that crushed the bones of the hadrosaurs and ceratopsians it preyed on.

You could be sensitive to the fact that not everyone believes in evolution and the world being millions of years old and just say, "Many years ago. It's essentially a 'boy who cried wolf' but in this case, the young monster was looking for the largest carnivore ever to roam the planet during the time of the dinosaurs. It's still a lazy retelling of The Boy Who Cried Wolf but like that it would at least make sense as a story. The rhyming is done pretty well and kids will likely enjoy the illustration style and the dino guide at the back. However, we got a bit confused about the description of the Brachiosaurus: "A truly huge herbivore, Tiny's mum will grow to be even bigger than Diplodocus! Bold capitals and the pattern of text placement throughout are as enchanting as the illustrations themselves.

Three cute dinosaurs and one ugly dinosaur subtly named Bonehead are warned by their parents to avoid the Gigantosaurus. As a grown-up, it is enjoyable to read, there's a nice rhythm to the story and it's got enough humour and points of interaction to keep it intersting for the reader as well as the audience. Although there aren't a lot of surprises here, the digital illustrations and story are sure to have dino-mite appeal for dinosaur lovers.
