This one seems a little odd to me, we have always found Port Royal a pretty easy game to learn and explain to new players. However, reducing the amount of Influence points needed to win the game and eliminating the expeditions means that play time can take as little as 15 minutes. For us personally the biggest draw of this variant is that it includes new cards that can be added to the base game… so that’s something. Port Royal: Just One More Contract - Expansion

Example: It's Andrea's turn. She had drawn 5 cards into the harbor display during her Discover Phase. 4 of those were differently colored Ships which is why she was able to take 2 cards. First she took a Ship worth two 2 coins. Then she spent the money to hire 1 Person. Finally the remaining person cards provide benefits on a player’s turn. The Governor is worth 0 victory points, and costs 8 coins, but allows the player to select an additional card on their turn. The Admiral card gives players an immediate 2 coins any time there are 5 or more cards in the Harbor when it is their turn to choose a card. Finally, the Jester card gives players an immediate coin if there are NO cards in the Harbor when it is their turn to choose a card. It’s a little hard to decide where Port Royal falls in the spectrum of gaming. The small-sized box and the fact that the entire game is just 120 cards, makes me think it would be a filler game.Appoint a leader for your adventure from four different character classes: the Explorer, the Merchant, the Buccaneer and the Pirate – each providing

The aim is becoming Governor. To achieve this, trading and completing missions (finding the player character's captured mother and sister or a buried treasure) is required. To hire 1 Person, a player has to pay an amount of coins (put onto the discard pile) equal to the cost depicted on the bottom part of the Person he wishes to hire. He puts the Person into his personal display and may from now on use the ability on the top part of the card (the banner). All abilities are explained at the end of the rules. Simple, cheap, small, (all 3 fit into one tiny box) fun, easy to teach (except for the symbology on the People cards) and is VERY accessible. Fun for Gamers and Casual players. Andrea is hiring a Sailor. She pays 3 of her coins into the discard pile and puts the Sailor into her personal display. For the first time in the series, naval battles will be turn-based, with up to 8 ships battling at one time and tactical captain maneuvers that can turn the tide in even the most hopeless of situations for a glorious victory. An official “end of game” variant requires players to have acquired at least one Expedition card. Some cards feature elements of expeditions, whilst others are tax cards that could prove beneficial but could also be costly if you hold too much gold. Additionally, the amount of Swords they give you, must be equal to or higher than the Swords depicted on the Ship. If this is the case you may put the Ship into the discard pile instead of the harbor display - otherwise it cannot be repelled and has to go into the harbor display.
