MICHAEL HARCUS SINGER/SONGWRITER

Michael was brought up in the small island of Westray, one of the northern islands in Orkney. His family were farmers and he was brought up on the family farm which he became a partner in during his late teens.

His family were also part of Westray Baptist Church which Michael also attended from as early as he can remember. He also joined his grandfather and father in the local Male Voice Choir at the age of 13.

Michael asked Jesus into his life at the age of 8, but never shared this until he was 12. His faith started to grow after he shared his story with someone else.

In 1990 he married his wife Teenie and they have two grown up children – Hannah and Matthew.

Music had a big input into Michael’s life, leading worship in his local church and being part of local groups. In the late 1990s Michael was encouraged to record some of his own Christian contemporary country songs and has since gone on to record several albums.

Michael started to tour Scotland in 1999 with his first album. A lot of his first venues were the prisons of Scotland along with churches where he got his support. During the the first year the touring increased causing the family to think prayerfully about the future of the farm. In the year 2000 the family sold the main farm, and converted an old barn into holiday accommodation – diversification was the in word that year!

Michael continues to sing and minister throughout the UK and further afield. His heart is to encourage the church – building them in their relationship with Jesus, to help reach the lost and see the captives set free.

Michael usually travels alone but when possible is joined by his wife Teenie and their friend Mairi Warren a teacher from Glasgow who adds harmonies and plays piano. The music on Michael’s albums is provided by his extended family and friends and occasionally Michael pulls them all together for some events.
